Epilepsy & Seizure Disorders
SPENS performs neuropsychological evaluations for patients with epilepsy and seizure disorders. Neuropsychological Evaluations are conducted in English and in Spanish with Spanish speaking or bilingual patients. Dr. Leon works closely with Pediatric Epilepsy and Neurology Specialists in Tampa (Jose Ferreira, M.D.) and has conducted neuropsychological assessment of pediatric patients involved in Drug Trials. In addition, Dr. Leon is a staff member of the Comprehensive epilepsy Program at USF Health, Department of Neurology and Tampa General Hospital. Neuropsychological evaluations are conducted with patients with epilepsy and seizure disorders as follows:
- Presurgical evaluations to predict cognitive and behavioral outcomes following neurosurgery for intractable epilepsy
- To Identify cognitive and behavioral strengths and those weaknesses that might be associated with epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Monitor neuropsychological effects of pharmacological and surgical intervention
- Assist with Educational/Vocational Planning
- Psychoeducation regarding IDEA and ADA
